Episode 56 – Dan Bakkedahl on Rodney Dangerfield – Rappin Rodney

bakkedahl

This week I finally get to talk to one of my favorite character actors, Dan Bakkedahl, about one of his favorite albums – Rodney Dangerfield’s “Rappin’ Rodney.”  I’d never heard it before, and was surprised at how well a strong set-up/punch routine still works.  Sure, it’s dated, but it still works.  Do yourself a favor and pull yourself out of the mindset that what you love now is the best.  At one point, this was.  And it was still old-timey then.

Episode 55 – Andrew Bergman on Blazing Saddles

AndrewBergmanMy favorite film of all time is Blazing saddles.  In fact, there used to be a subway/bus poster for the film hanging where I now hang my LPs.  There’s plenty around Fort Awesome Studios to indicate my love for this film and anyone who had anything to do with it.  So, only a few months after getting to play Hedley Lamarr onstage, I was honored to speak with Andrew Bergman by phone from New York about my favorite film, which started from a kernel of an idea, turned into a novella that I desperately want to read, and became a classic, sparking off the career of my  favorite director.  I had a wonderful time, and Andrew was a super-classy, nice, insightful writer – everything you’d hope.  Enjoy.

Episode 54 – Dan Schlissel on Myron Cohen – Everybody Gotta Be Someplace

danschlisselI got the chance this episode to speak with Dan Schlissel who founded Stand Up! Records  and was kind enough to give me a glimpse into the world of Myron Cohen.  Once upon a time there were ethnic comedians – comics who made hay from their specific ethnic backgrounds with all the love of a great storyteller and joke teller.  This is a wonderful snapshot of a bygone era and a great glimpse into the world of collecting comedy on vinyl.

Episode 50 – Graham Elwood – Free to Be… You and Me – Mark II

grahamelwoodThis week is filled with milestones.  Our two-year anniversary (yay) our 50th episode (at least half a milestone) and our first time covering a previously discussed album (finally).  If this podcast has taught me anything, it’s that perspective is everything.  All I ask is that you the comedy of Mr. Kevin Allison with that of this week’s guest, Mr. Graham Elwood, to see how the same album can have a profound effect on two different brands of humor.

Graham was nice enough to talk about this album and his comedy this week, so be nice enough to go see him live.  He is awesome.
