Episode 203 – Ritch Shydner on Lenny Bruce – I Am Not A Nut, Elect Me!

cov_203_sd

Turns out, Ritch Shydner and I are kindred spirits.  We like talking comedy, interviewing people about it, and performing it, and Ritch’s performing goes back to 1977, in DC, before there were comedy clubs.  He’s also got a great book out called Kicking Through The Ashes.

Episode 202 – Donna Lynne Champlin on Steve Martin – Wild and Crazy Guy

cov_202_sd

Donna Lynne Champlin is not only Paula on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but she’s an album-self-producing singer, stage performer and, it turns out, a lover of Steve Martin.  After our discussion, she might be spreading this album to a younger generation.

Episode 201 – Dave Willis and Casper Kelly on Comedy Is Not Pretty and Class Clown

cov_201_sd

It’s a first for the podcast – two guests talking about two different albums.  We explore the manifold differences and similarities in the influences on the two guys who bring you Adult Swim’s Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell, and it’s a genuinely great time.

Episode 200 – Harry Shearer on Stan Freberg and More

cov_200_sd

It’s time to celebrate!  Episode 200 brings us a guest I’ve been hoping to speak with for years upon years – the fantastic Harry Shearer.  I was honored when he agreed to do the show, and excited to talk a bit more about Stan Freberg, Harry’s other influences, and of course The Credibility Gap.

Episode 91 – Jim Cummings

Jim CummingsI don’t have the words.  And you can tell.  I’m not ashamed to get flustered, obviously, but Jim is a hero of mine, and has been for 20-plus years.  He was the first voice actor whose name I learned and whose work I looked for every time I watched something animated.  This was a complete honor, and we talk Cosby and Smothers.

Episode 27 – Amy Phillips on Dana Carvey

This week we talk impressions with the awesome Amy Phillips.  We take some liberties with the vinyl aspect to talk about one of her greatest influences – and one of ours – Dana Carvey.

Whether you’re an SNL fan or not, you have to appreciate his skill.  I’ve picked a few random clips (those that were available online) but there is SO much more to find in his HBO specials, his SNL best of, and The Dana Carvey show, which gave us – besides great sketches – Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell.
