Episode 151 – Jason C. Brown on the SNL Album

JasonCBrown_SD

Jason C. Brown is the director of an upcoming short film called Imaginary Friends, which is currently funding on Indiegogo, hence our unusual posting of a COV bonus episode this week.  I may be biased (see me in the promo video below), but I think you should go send some money their way so that this movie gets made!  Jason sat down with me to discuss one of his greatest influences – SNL.  We delve even deeper into the album than we did the last time we covered it, and end up way too perplexed about the straight-up Coke ad at the beginning.

Episode 127 – Will Byrne on Billy Crystal – Mahvelous

WillByrneWill Byrne runs the fantastic Military Moments podcast, and comedy runs in the family (Will was his brother Steve’s.stand-in on “Sullivan & Son”).  He picked Billy Crystal’s only album, a snapshot of the 80s, catch-phrase-comedy, and how a comic mixed stand-up with the most zeitgeisty characters I’ve heard on an album, yet.

Episode 108 – Andres du Bouchet on The SNL Cast Album

dubouchetAndrés du Bouchet is not only a hilarious stand up, but he writes for the funniest guy ever – Conan.  We talk about a number of albums this episode, but the big one is the SNL Cast Album.  Though I didn’t have it in hand the day of, the clips you’re hearing in this episode are from a vinyl rip.  Go check out his comedy, watch Conan, and definitely listen to this album.  I’ve put almost all of one sketch at the end, because its (for me) the greatest sketch on there, and one of my favorites of all time.

Episode 27 – Amy Phillips on Dana Carvey

This week we talk impressions with the awesome Amy Phillips.  We take some liberties with the vinyl aspect to talk about one of her greatest influences – and one of ours – Dana Carvey.

Whether you’re an SNL fan or not, you have to appreciate his skill.  I’ve picked a few random clips (those that were available online) but there is SO much more to find in his HBO specials, his SNL best of, and The Dana Carvey show, which gave us – besides great sketches – Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell.
