Episode 141 – James Bladon and Jeremy Guskin on Monty Python – The Holy Grail Soundtrack

This week I’m joined by the amazingly talented James Bladon (the music for Superego and their alter-egos The Journeymen and the music editor for countless TV shows) and my great friend and talented person in his own right Jeremy Guskin to discuss (deep breath) “The Album Of The Soundtrack Of The Trailer Of The Film Of Monty Python And The Holy Grail.”  It would’ve been worth talking about it even if it was 50 minutes of movie clips, but the fact that this is a great album on its own is actually quite a spectacular feat.  They took the time to make this album seem like it was a tossed-off (bad choice of words, I know), last-minute money-grab, when in fact it’s filled with solid sketches.

Jeremy CarterJeremy Carter is here to talk Cosby.  Not just Cosby, but Himself.  A seminal album, and one that has stuck with a number of a certain generation maybe more than his earlier work, wonderful as it is.  This is Bill Cosby’s dad “character,” which is a stretch as a term in this case, as refined as it ever got.  This is frustrated dad refusing to give up, but still accepting his fate.

GourleyOne-quarter sketch group, one-quarter country band, 2 quarters comedy enthusiast, Matt Gourley joins us this week to talk about Monty Python’s The Final Rip Off, an important album for both of us.  We talk improv, sketch, and specifically Monty Python’s influence on his work with the amazing podcast/improv-sketch group Superego, which you probably already know comes back September 1st with new episodes and with additional Paul F. Tompkins’s.  I had a blast talking about this great double-album, which, while yet another compilation, might be the ultimate packing-in of the best of Monty Python, in terms of what works as audio-only sketch comedy.
