Episode 85 – Mark Proksch on The Two Sides Of The Smothers Brothers

MarkProksch

You’ve seen Mark Proksch on The Office as Nate.  You might have been fortunate enough to see Kenny Strasser, Yo-Yo Master.  He’s generally just brilliant and funny, but he also picked The Smothers Brothers, finally bringing me back to something I have memorized most of.  It gets comfortably nerdy herein, even if he doesn’t have anything to plug.  Enjoy!

Episode 84 – Rocky Mountain Mike on Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America, Vol 1: The Early Years

RockyMountain Mike

Rocky Mountain Mike (aka Mike Hardeman) has been creating political satire for years.  He began (as a lot of us did) recording himself and his friends creating comedy as kids.  He eventually moved into radio, and after an impressive back catalog, has finally released his first album of political satire, “Politically Incoherent.”  Mike wanted to discuss “Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America, Vol 1: The Early Years,” so we finally got the chance to put some Freberg on the internet air.  It was a lot of fun.

Episode 83 – Rusty Warren – Part 2

RustyWarren_Part2

It’s the Rusty Warren interview, part 2!  No clips (except at the end) so you can get a better feel for the conversation we had.  It was amazing, and I can’t stop going on about what an incredible honor this was for Mike and myself.  Because it was.  Amazing stuff.

Baby Episode 7 – Music to Shave By – Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Rosemary Clooney and The Hi-Los

musictoshaveby_bothWe do have a regular episode coming this week – Part 2 of the Rusty Warren interview, in fact!  But to hold you over, here’s a find from an estate sale this weekend.  According to the record itself – a paper pull-out from a 1959 issue of Look magazine – this is the “first hi-fi recording to ever be included in a national magazine.”  How true is it?  Not sure.  But it’s great to hear Bing sing about wanting a double chin.

Episode 82 – Rusty Warren – Part 1

RustyWarren_Part1

It’s finally here – our interview with comedy legend Rusty Warren.  Queen of the party album, progressive thinker, wonderful singer and all-around wonderful comedian.  In a time where sex in comedy meant being blue for the sake of it, Rusty turned it and made it a conversation piece.  Not just in dens around the country, not just in the earphones of her at-home listener, but right there in the face of her live audience.  She asked the women to play along so that sex, and laughing about it, were not exclusive to men.  In this first of two parts, Rusty talks about how she got started – and not just as an entertainer – and about what the comedy scene was like when she was coming up.  She’s amazing.  Listen close, and stay tuned for part 2.
